Technology and infrastructure providers

SMEs, startups, technology teams, high-performance computing centres, research networks, telecoms, cloud and equipment providers can take part in the work of The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) by responding to testbed and mission calls or by offering qualified resources. Participation is neutral: selection follows documented criteria, evaluation never depends on the size of a contribution and testing is not certification. Offered capacity is never counted as allocated. This page is part of Work with GCRI.

06Key terms

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
TestbedA controlled setting, from a lab rig to a field site or sandbox, for trying a technology before it meets real conditions of use.
Vendor lock-inDependence on one provider that makes switching costly or slow.
Sponsor neutralityThe principle that a campaign's funder does not control its findings, claims or editorial decisions.
Acceptance criteriaThe stated conditions a deliverable must meet before the client accepts it.
07Neutrality and licensing

How providers are treated.

  1. 01

    Neutral selection

Participants are selected on documented criteria. Contribution level never decides evaluation.

  2. 02

    Licensing

Each test sets out the licence for provider technology and for results. Background intellectual property stays with its owner, as described under rights and licences.

  3. 03

    Approved test pathways

Tests follow an evaluation plan with stop rules, described under technology assessment.

  4. 04

    No endorsement

A test result describes what was tested. It is not accreditation, certification, endorsement or exclusivity.

08Questions

Questions and answers.

Can we use participation in our marketing?
Only as an accurate statement of what took place, with published results cited in full. Participation may not be described as endorsement, partnership or certification.
Does offering capacity commit us to provide it?
An offer is the first state. Commitment arises only through a separately approved allocation with agreed terms.
Are calls open now?
Calls are published when they open, with their terms. At the current service level, R0, providers can send an enquiry and receive a reference.
How do we start?
Write to partnerships@therisk.global describing your technology or the capacity you can offer.

Start with an enquiry.

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
