Renew

Renewal closes the loop: corrections are applied, monitoring data are compared with what the analysis expected, and the year's lessons set the next research agenda.

01In brief

The short answer.

Renew is step eight of the eight-step Nexus cycle: the step at which corrections are made and lessons feed the next annual agenda. It is owned by the corrections process and the next annual agenda. At this step GCRI records corrections and feeds lessons into the next agenda, and the decision at the end of the cycle stays with the competent authority.

02Geography

Systemic exposure in Egypt and the Nile Delta.

Where people and networks concentrate, the exposure through which shocks travel between systems, shown for Egypt and the Nile Delta as an example geography for this subject.

04Monitoring and review

Comparing what happened with what was expected.

ISO 31000 treats monitoring and review as part of every stage, not a final audit. For systemic risk this means tracking the indicators a finding depended on (reservoir storage, grid reserve margins, case counts, price spreads) and asking whether the observed path stays inside the range the analysis gave. A path outside the range is a finding in its own right.

  • After-action reviews from tests and real events, with the technical part written by GCRI.
  • Correction logs from Nexus Reports, traced back to the decisions that relied on the corrected version.
  • Method updates on the STEM Commons when validation shows a method's limits were understated.
05The next agenda

Lessons become questions.

What the year exposed, including what the evidence could not answer, becomes candidate questions for the annual cycle. Sendai's monitoring and the IPCC assessment cycle are the reference rhythms that national bodies work to; the agenda is set so its outputs can feed them.

Terms used on this page.

Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.

TermDefinition
CorrectionA published notice that amends an error in a work whose main findings stand.
Lessons learnedDocumented knowledge from experience, positive or negative, recorded to change future practice.
After-action reviewA structured discussion after an activity of what was planned, what happened, why, and what to change.

Start with an enquiry.

The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
