Nexus Consortiums group their research scope into six programme regions, with fifteen planned hubs between them. The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) coordinates the regions as Consortium Secretariat. Regions exist to compare compatible evidence on the systems that cross borders, such as basins, grids, corridors and health systems, while each country keeps its own data and decisions. This page separates what a region covers from what is actually in formation, and points to the records behind each state. Return to How Nexus Consortium works.

The six programme regions of Nexus Consortiums are Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East and North Africa, and North America, with fifteen planned hubs between them. They exist to compare evidence on systems that cross borders while each country keeps its data and decisions; all six are in formation.
Where people and networks concentrate, the exposure through which shocks travel between systems, shown for the Caribbean as an example geography for this subject.

Fifteen planned hubs in total. A hub is a planned coordination or service role in a region; it is never an office or an exclusive territory, and it becomes operating only when its host decision is on record.
The 193 United Nations member states and the two observer states are in scope for research coverage and formation enquiries. See Countries and research profiles.
Each region, named programme and country carries its own state, taken from a record. See Programme status.
North African states take part in both Africa and the Middle East and North Africa; Mexico in both North America and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Transboundary basin | A river, lake or aquifer basin shared by two or more countries, where use upstream changes the water, sediment and risk that arrive downstream. |
| Subsidiarity | The principle that a decision is taken at the lowest level able to take it well, with a higher level acting only where the objective cannot be achieved closer to the people concerned; the Treaty on European Union states it. |
| Programme status | The recorded state of a programme on Nexus pages: exploring, forming, constituted, active, paused or archived. A plan is never presented as an activity. |
| Regional platform for disaster risk reduction | A forum, convened with regional bodies and UNDRR, where governments and stakeholders of a region coordinate and review disaster risk reduction under the Sendai Framework. |
The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
