Countries can compare and combine their work only if they share methods. The Global Centre for Risk and Innovation (GCRI) stewards the methods and interoperability conventions of the Nexus Ecosystem: how evidence is labelled, how models are documented, how data moves between systems and how capacity is measured. These are working conventions for the programme. They are not certification, accreditation or a claim of conformity with any external standard, and completing a test or profile never implies one. Methods and standards in the Nexus Ecosystem are the working conventions GCRI stewards so that countries can compare and combine their work: how evidence is labelled, how models are documented, how data moves between systems and how capacity is measured. They are conventions for the programme, not certification, accreditation or a claim of compliance.
Mountain ranges, deserts, wetlands, glaciers and reefs, and how remote each division is from large cities, shown for the Caribbean as an example geography for this subject.
| Label | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Observed | Measured directly |
| Officially reported | Reported by a competent authority; a source type, not an endorsement |
| Institution-reported | Reported by a participating institution |
| Estimated | Derived from partial data with a stated method |
| Modelled | Produced by a documented model |
| Forecast | A model projection for a future period |
| Scenario | A plausible what-if, not a prediction |
| Expert judgement | Structured opinion with its basis |
| Unknown | Not known; never shown as zero |
Each of the fifty-four methods has one canonical page in the STEM Commons.
Data, model and software cards record purpose, inputs, validation, limits and version.
Versioned source agreements, schema mappings and refresh and correction protocols with source agencies.
Conventions make work comparable. They do not tell anyone that a product, person or institution meets a requirement.
Each term as this page uses it. Where a standard-setting body defines the term, the wording follows that body.
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Evidence label | A tag on an assertion naming the kind of evidence behind it, such as observed, officially reported or modelled. |
| Model card | A short document describing a model's intended use, training data, performance and limits. |
| Interoperability | The ability of health information systems to exchange data and use it with the same meaning, using standards such as HL7 FHIR. |
| Harmonisation | Adjusting data from different sensors so they can be combined consistently. |
Standards bodies, metrology organizations and professional societies can propose methods or interoperability collaboration. The first outcome is a scoped profile, an interoperability protocol and reusable artifacts where licensed. Write to research@therisk.global. The current service level is R0: information and enquiries. An enquiry receives a reference and names the next step; applications, payments, compute allocations and registrations open only when their team, terms and review capacity exist.
